Glossop Operatic and Dramatic Society

This Spring we are pleased to produce 'Frankenstein' a play by Philip Pullman.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Adapted by Phillip Pullman

The story of a man who believes he can create a living being.  A being that is better than human?

Victor Frankenstein goes about proving he is better than any God.

Victor discovers the secret of life and creates an intelligent but grotesque monster.  Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker.  Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Glossop Operatic & Dramatic Society has brought entertainment and pleasure to its audiences, and performance opportunities to its members over 35 years. Rehearsal: Annie

With a reputation (and award!) for the quality of our productions the society remains very inclusive and firmly based in the people of Glossop, achieving a great audience experience along with highly enjoyable time for the cast and crew. (see our Past Shows  page for more rehearsal pictures like this one from "Annie")

High Peak Borough Council has closed all public halls in the town so we are now based at Glossopdale Community College.  Our residence in the school has built links and opportunities for students to extend their experience in performing arts & theatrical production and to pursue their Arts Award through our productions.

The audience comes to see the spectacular of what's on stage but there are many activities that make it all happen:

Our membership is open to all and we always welcome new members so please contact us if you think you'd like to be part of it all.

Situated in Glossop, to the east of Manchester and Stockport, GODS is in the North West Region of NODA so has access to all the resources of the national association supporting amateur dramatics.

GODS: a local society for local people from Glossop, Hadfield, Ashton, Stalybridge, Hyde, Stockport, Buxton and New Mills - and anywhere else!
